I'm a big fan of Niki de Saint Phalle and so of course, this was a must see on my quickie three day weekend in Paris last weekend! I had seen video of it being created and was really excited. We made it there and spent some time taking photos and videos and the sculptures are gorgeous, of course. I believe there is supposed to be some additional movement but I could be wrong and maybe it is just the water spray from them. Regardless, they were lovely to look at and I was very happy to have had the opportunity to go take a peek at Niki's art. She was such a gem.
If you're a fan, you can see her work in Escondido, California at Queen Calafia's Magic Circle Garden and about an hour north of Rome in Italy at the Tarot Garden. Her work is intense and amazing. -

My second favorite (equally favorite, mind you) fountain in Paris has to be La Fountaine Stravinsky. Not just because of cultural roots connection, but also because of my love of modern art and all aspects of it.
First of all, it just next to Centre Pompidou - win!
Second, there is a little cart on the corner that sells best panini you would ever eat in your life (I assure you they quite different from American variations and drool-worthy-finger-licking-delicious!).
Thirdly, it is just most fascinating fountain to watch!
So, you got that panini, right? Now just plop on the seat along the edge of the fountain, get comfortable, watch and listen.
16 bright whimsical kinetic sculptures rotate, spew water or just look back at you... Water splashing, pouring, spouting.
People of all origins chatting around. All in movement, all rotating, going somewhere, never stopping...
It's my favorite spot to spend lunch time in summer, in Paris, hands down.
